Mail The Horse

Last Friday, Damon Moon and I recorded Mail The Horse, an awesome band from NYC. Here's a shot of me placing a microphone in a figure of 8 pattern between the kick and bottom snare. Try it out if you haven't!

Life at Sea / Mixtape For Lovers

The end of the 2012 has been fruitful and exciting.

1. I acquired a new mixing console. (see below)
2. The fellows from Life at Sea stopped by to record drums and bass for 5 killer new songs.
3. My buddy Devin and I launched our new project, Mixtape For Lovers, with a Christmas release.

Plans for more fun next year are being made at this moment!

new happenings

Good things have been happening in my world and I'd like to fill you in.

New EP from Cute Boots is out! I mixed it and recorded it with my good buddy Mitchell Hardage. 3 great songs from a great band. Get it here and name your own price!

First full length from The Romans is going to be released next week. I recorded and produced the "lion's share," as we like to say (stupid inside joke), meaning 7 songs. Kyle Dreaden mixed the sucker. If you're in Atlanta, join us for the release show November 3rd in East Atlanta. Deets on the event here and a kind review from Atlanta Music Guide here!

The talented Book Club will be releasing their latest EP in November. Team Mitchell and John were lucky to record a lively version of "Oh! You Lied" in our living room earlier this year, and wouldn't you know, it made the cut! Until it's released, check out a different version of the track here that the band recorded with Luciano Giarrano at The Cottage. Great work guys!

I'm now working on a full length with local artist Philip Buchanan and can't wait to share it with you as I know you'll love his songs as much as I do.

Nathan Nelson live at Northside Tavern

Yesterday I returned from vacation in St. Louis and last night I recorded Nathan Nelson and the Entertainment Crackers live at Northside Tavern in Atlanta. Unbelievable, I tell you. There isn't a better live band in Atlanta when these guys are on and last night was no exception. Nathan and I will be sorting through the 40 song set before I move forward with mixing.

In other news, I've finished tracking The Romans' record. Kyle Dreaden is currently mixing it. Yesterday, Tim Kohler and the Big Tent Revival Party released their new single Out Tonight. Other super secret exciting projects are in the works...

tracking The Romans

We've been getting in deep these last few weeks. 4 songs are finished and ready for mix. 2 more songs will be tracked the first week in July. This is what The Romans look like when we work...

Oh, and by the way, check out Giving Up and Life Partner. 2 sweet bands from Chicago.

Book Club meeting at my house

Well, I suppose it's about time that I stop neglecting this blog like summer reading and update you guys on what's happening in my world.

In April I hosted my first Book Club meeting. No, I didn't sit around with a bunch of middle-aged women discussing Fifty Shades Darker, but rather recorded 2 songs with the fantastic folk band from Atlanta!

The band set up in my living room one Tuesday evening and ran a few live takes of both "Navy Nurse" and "Oh, You Lied." My friend /assistant engineer Mitchell Hardage and I couldn't believe the sound jumping out of the speakers in the control room. We were indeed capturing the intangible and sometimes elusive thing called vibe! Folks, that's what happens when you put microphones in front of a talented group of musicians, get the heck out of the way and let them do what they do. It's simple, really.

The recordings are currently unreleased, but check out Book Club's other stuff for now. I hope to continue working with the band in the future.

In other news, The Romans are recording our debut full-length album. When it's done, you should be able to pick it up at Wal-Mart :)
